Miss Africa USA 2009-10, Nyasha Zimucha, will be presenting at RWUL Presents: “I Luv Africa” Film Series and Community Discussion on September 19, 2009.

Miss Africa USA 2009-10, Nyasha Zimucha, Nyasha is a native of the South Africa, grew up during the apartheid era, speaks 5 languages and is an avid spokeswoman for her “Global Citizen Campaign”. The Global Citizen Campaign (GCC) is a movement Nyasha developed in 2008 in response to the xenophobic violent attacks in South Africa.

”Nelson Mandela taught me the message of ubuntu -which simply says that I am who I am because of those around me. ” The GCC is broken down into 5 humanitarian issues across the globe -and 5 organizations that focus in those areas, which the GCC supports. These five sectors being education, healthcare, human rights, livelihood and US troops rehabilitation. “Instead of only starting my own cause I wanted to support existing causes that I believe in.” Through these tough economic times Nyasha feels now is the most important time to stand together as global citizens.

No Longer Richmond; Now it is Reel

New Name; New Mission: Independent Film Focus!

We have changed our name and our mission, we are now REEL WORLDWIDE UNDERGROUND LINK (RWUL).  Our focus will continue to be community centered but now we will only be doing independent film endeavors.  We want to thank all the musicians, writers, performers, and community members that worked with RWUL in the past.   With the success of our two premiere film festivals, The RVA Arthouse Short Film Festival and the Red Orchid Female Film festival, it seemed only right to move in this direction.

As Richmond’s Worldwide Underground Link we worked with various artists buliding a network that connected them to the community in Richmond, Virginia.  We raised awareness to such issues as breast cancer, homelessness, and HIV/AIDS.  Our roots in the Richmond, Virginia community still run deep, but now we are really going worldwide and will be producing innovative independent film projects.

Stay tuned for the new exciting RWUL film projects and our new online independent film magazine coming this fall!  If you have ideas for submissions, pass them our way!
